Owner of Opal Waters Psychotherapy™
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
(LCSW)
Hi there! My name is Grace Kanzenbach, the owner of Opal Waters Psychotherapy™, and (hopefully) your future therapist!
I work with adults and teenagers who have really been through it and sometimes feel like they're either too much, not enough, or both! I do primarily trauma work and the thing about trauma work is that it can be extremely PAINFUL: physically and emotionally. As your therapist, not only do I hold unconditional positive regard for you, but I also hold non-judgmental space for you to be heard, seen, and validated. This looks like me sitting with you in the emotional pain and walking you through this pain when your defenses try to push it away.
Authenticity and radical genuineness are important to me; for you, this means gentle honesty and direct guidance through the therapeutic process to ensure that you're on track for reaching your goals. On that note, to be real with you for a second or two, this can also feel uncomfortable at times. There are times where I may point out ways of thinking or being that have been developed out of survival. It can be uncomfortable to get in touch with or fully notices these parts. However, this is also where the rubber meets the road for growth and is an important step towards feeling better!
A little more about me: I am all about tattoos, music, Halloween, dogs, weightlifting, nature, and silly goofy moods. I love love love humor and believe it is an absolute essential part of therapy (when appropriate). I tend to use a wide-range of colorful language and whole-heartedly encourage you to lean into swearing/cursing. Sometimes these are the best words to match the expression of how we feel!
I am committed to affirming experiences of BIPOC, 2SLGBTQIA+, and neurodivergent individuals. I continue to educate myself by learning from people within these communities, reading educational resources, and attending relevant continued education trainings. I also encourage and welcome feedback from clients.
